Logic - Everybody Album Review

Max Ataraxis

So around 2011/2012-ish my big sister Megan put me on to the rapper Logic and I have pretty much been a fan since ever since. The first thing I immediately noted that drew me in as a fan was the fact that he is from the DMV and reps it hard. I love when artist rep their region and it's even better when that region their reppin  is your home!

The second thing I noticed with Logic is that his music is super authentic and relatable. The whole brand he's created modernizing the Frank Sinatra brand  comes off  as fresh and genuine.  I feel that is a big reason why his fan base is so loyal.

Two songs that I specifically remember turning me into a fan were : "Mind of Logic" & "All I Do". I loved "Mind of Logic"  because he flipped the song "Mr Rager" by Kid Cudi and the music video was beautifully shot. Logic actually rocked my friend Noah's  clothing brand  LoLaFo In this video!

I loved the "All I Do" song because it was a relatable song about working haled, Chasing dreams, and chillin with pretty woman ( lol ). So over the years, Logic has evolved with each and every project he has released. It has been so dope to watch him grow from a generally unknown artist to the superstar that he is today.

His newest album "EVERYBODY"  touches on themes ranging from religion and politics to suicide and more. With this album, LOGIC takes you into his head vocalizing the struggles he's faces from both black and white people at the expense of his Bi-racial identity. The album has a back story going on amongst the songs that has Neil Degrasse Tyson playing God. I found the talking skits thought provoking and interesting. With the trend of featuring stories and skits in music, I feel LOGIC had one of the more potent ones. With Features  ranging from old school artist like Black Thought & Chuck D to new school artist like Alesia Cara , Logic blends in with his featured artist And them shine yet, still hes never overshadowed .

For a long time I feel like LOGIC was popular as in a cult following popular and it was with this album that people not only started recognizing him as a mainstream name but were mentioning him with rappers like cole, Kendrick, and Sean. All in all I give the album a 4/5 and am happy that people are finally puttting some Respek on his name!

Kiki Halliday

She has one of those voices that will make you stop doing what you're doing, making you fall into the beauty of the sound she creates.

Lamusicblog: Kiki Halliday’s angelic, breathy vocals and simplistic, yet universally reaching instrumentals immediately reels you in. Her songwriting is intimate, yet shrouded in a somber beauty that invites the listener in rather than alienating him or her with overly complex arrangements or technical implementations.

It’s songwriting akin to her influences such as Fiona Apple and Jenny Lewis, and it’s a breathe of fresh air in an LA music scene encumbered by DJs and electronically driven artists. The singer-songwriter grew up in LA knowing that music was important to her, but it was a gradual ascension toward discovering her passion for it.

Jillian Goldfluss from LAMusicBlog spoke with the budding musician about post-college life moving from the suburbs to the sprawling LA metropolis and pursuing her artistic aspirations, day by day...Read here. (source:lamusicblog)

 About

Kiki Halliday is a singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles. Her music pulls together different aspects of blues, pop and soulful sounds to create something that is bright yet vulnerable. She is a lyricist to the core, however she maximizes her sound by pairing uncomplicated chord progressions with words that will take ahold of you, willingly or not, and bring you down beyond the surface. Her live set has a noticeable easygoing, Southern California vibe as she plays the guitar well and interacts with the crowd in a way that’s honest and whole-souled.

Kiki released her first complete work, “The Love Notes EP”, in November 2014. “Love Notes” was recorded in its entirety with Scott Frankfurt (has worked with Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, John Legend) at his studio in Woodland Hills, CA. What’s interesting here is that Kiki can move fluidly across genres without seeming too bound to anything. This has allowed her the opportunity to work on projects including a collaboration with LA producer/DJ Matt DiMona on his debut EP, Up All Night, where she co-wrote and sang on the synth, R&B infused track, “Next 2 U” and another with Philadelphia-based hip-hop artist and rapper, Frzy, on his upcoming album God King Slave.  Her music has also been featured on the TV show The Young and the Restless, and her song “Beautiful Soul” will be included in the upcoming motion picture I’m Not Ashamed, due out in theaters October 21st.

Kiki continues to put on live shows in the LA and San Diego area- depending on the night you may be able to catch an intimate acoustic session or hear her music come alive during a set with her bandmates. There are melodies coming out of this young, raw talent that may land anywhere and that’s what makes it exciting to see what she will do next. (source:kikihalliday.com/about/

LegenDerry

CDA Management, a full-service artist management company representing a variety of talent in the areas of film/television, modeling, music, comedy, and dance brings yet another phenomenal hip hop lyricist stemming from the home of the black and yellow - LegenDerry a premier up and coming rapper born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA.  Like fellow Pittsburgh MCs, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, LegenDerry found his musical muse at a very young age. After discovering his musical talent and ambition, he placed his focus on writing, recording, and producing his own music. Through his undying ambition and versatile lyrics, it is evident that LegenDerry stands apart from the rest.  For instance check his Pure Imagination project; the track titled Pure Imagination produced by Breaux provides a good example of the quality of sound, style, flow and maturity in LegenDerry's voice - plus its a sick track.

LegenDerry credits his creativity to his father, who was the vocalist for a punk-rock band in his youth. Coming from a musical family background, LegenDerry found his passion for his own style through a musical technology class in high school. There, he began making beats, recording vocals, and learning production. He started a rap group in 9th grade, which received backlash and caused controversy throughout his school. He was bullied for being a white rapper, and eventually relocated to a different high school for his senior year.

One of the most crucial moments in LegenDerry’s career, was his first studio session at MCM studios in Pittsburgh, PA. Everything came naturally - he laid down his first official tracks, and the rest is history. There, he discovered a unique style which is embedded in each of his verses to this day. LegenDerry possesses an extremely original and articulate flow, separated from the competition by his lyrical genius.

Where in The world is Kanye West?

Max Ataraxis

Anyone who knows me, Know that Kanye West is in my personal Fav Top 5 list (Top 5 Top 5 Top 5 #DrakeVoice) of musicians to ever do it. Being born in 92', Kanye's career started popping off around the same time I started really getting into music. A time where your a teenager and EVERYTHING is super exciting because its all so new. Outkast, Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, and Pharrell are the rappers who really got me nurtured into Hip-hop culture in my early teens. All five of these brothas strayed away from the typical tropes of Hip-Hop music: Drugs, woman, Money, street cred, etc. & if they DID talk about it, it was in the most unique of ways. I wasnt the type of kid to get a lot of girls nor be invited to any parties (Unless of course that party involved Cake and Parental supervision). I never smoked or drank in high school. I was never suspended for anything or even had a detention. Long story, short. I was Good AF (lol)

Hip-Hop was my drug of choice and the only one I hit growing up. Like the popular Lupe Fiasco song says; "Hip-Hop (LITTERALLY) Saved my life". Later on in my teenage years, it'd be bands like FALL OUT BOY and PARAMORE who would begin to wet my feet into the rock world that I adore so much these days.

All this being said, The point I'm trying to make is that Kanye has been in my life for a very long time. The phrase "Kids of Kanye" doesnt exist for no reason. For many Millenials, Mr. West has been there since we were young. He has gotten us through tough times. He has provide the soundtrack for the turn up. He's made us laugh with lines like "And on the 18th birthday, found out it wasnt HISSSS?!?!" . West was never known to be super lyrical but his signature flow and style of writing is and always will be distinct to him. Time and time again Kanye has pushed the limit for creativity within a genre that finds success in the minimalism of subgenres like mumble, gangsta, and trap rap.

So the question as of lately has been, Where in the world is Kanye west?
He has not been seen out in public in a very long time and according to his wife, Kim Kardashian West, He has been having "Personal time" to himself and not leaving the house.

I have a theory that elaborates on what she just described. This past November, Kanye went on one of the realest rants of his career. Lets call it the "FUCK RADIO" rant. Kanye was spitting some SUPER REAL shit, but the media tried to play it like "Oh boy, there goes CRAZY KANYE". All of us woke mofo's though? Kanye had simply said something that we all have been thinking for forever! IM TIRED OF HEARING THE SAME DAMN TEN SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN! (lol)

Shortly after that incident, Kanye was placed in a mental hospital for a few weeks. Whole time, Im sitting there like what? This man kanye goes and speaks some of the realest words of his career and he gets put in a mental asylum for it? This man spent his thanksgiving in a mental hospital because he went on stage and spoke the truth. This world is crazy, man.

So yes my theory: My theory is that Kanye is legit in the sunken place. (GET OUT was iconic, wasnt it? :D) I'm not here to trash the Kardashians hence I didnt mention their influence in this, but um...yeah I know we're all thinking it ( lol ) and I'm not here to be a conspiracy theorist blogger, either. All Imma say is this : MK Ultra Mind Control. Google it. And then Seriously yall, Pray for our big brother Kanye.

Corrections to dated directions of submissions to Universal Music Group / Capital Records:

On my last day in L.A, I figured I walk by as many places I could that I didn’t get a chance to, days after attending the 2017 ASCAP #ICreateMusic Expo.  Following the hollywood stars to the Capital Records building, I was stopped and questioned by a staff member right outside its door.  The guy went by the name of, I think ‘~Jon-Paul?’. Regardless, cool dude, we had a good short, yet deep conversation about the industry and the current problems it faced.

Before the conversation got deeper, and before I explained my intentions and goals, he had initially handed me a sheet that include directions for applying for jobs and submitting a demo.  It was as if, people frequently come to Capital Records and try to get in, so they have a staff member posted outside to monitor the entry, ready to hand out these unprofessional printouts to the daily stragglers.  Mid conversation, I could tell he thought in his mind he had wasted a print-out on me.

Below are the original directions on the sheet of paper: Outdated, incorrect data. See updated directions at the bottom of this article.

4. Click “Spinnup” to submit Demo

After settling in back home, days later, going through follow-ups from people we networked with at the event, including reconnecting with many talented independent artists, many of which are currently featured in this platform, I figured for shits n’ giggles, lets go to those links I was giving on that sheet from Jon-Paul outside of the Capital Records.  After doing so, I realizing that the site had been edited much after these instructions were printed, and its instructions didn’t make sense.

If I was handed this, I’m sure others were too, and maybe are still being handed this. So for clarity, I figured I just write an article with updated directions.  Therefore if you run into this issue, and type it in google or another search engine like I did at first, hopefully this article will pop up and help you out.  Your welcome, then again, it really wasn’t that complicated.
