JAY DAVIS - Jay Davis is an emerging, self-taught artist born and raised in Washington, DC. Jay discovered his love for art at the age of 8 when he created his first abstract piece that still hangs in the home of his proud parents.

Jay creates vivid abstract paintings with a contemporary flair, specializing in acrylics and textured art designs on canvas. He loves bold color, and enjoys using some very unique textures that gives his abstract work a powerful presence. Jay finds his inspiration in his many life experiences.

Growing up in a middle class home, Jay excelled in sports, especially soccer and basketball. Unfortunately he opted for a fast paced lifestyle which exposed him to adventure and risk as he witnessed crime, betrayal, separation and tragedy. This environment helped shape and develop his intense love for his craft.

Art became his refuge later in life and has now developed into his passion. Jay’s life experiences have given him a colorful outlook on life, which is vividly displayed in his work. A steady stream of friends and acquaintances along with word of mouth, have created quite a buzz around Jay’s art work. Corporations and private collectors up and down the east coast have commissioned his work and now he is proud to be able to share his talent with the world. (source:Facebook)

"My Style is definitely all my own, and I love what I do.  My art comes from deep within my heart , mind and soul. Throughout life I have stored a wealth of personal experiences in my head and heart. My Work  becomes a open door to share with the world my thoughts and ideas. I envision textures first and wait for the perfect color to accent my thoughts. Some of my life's experiences prompt feelings of loneliness and I create abstract expressions, as demonstrated in "Abyss". Sometimes my playful side is a perfect medium for works like, "House Party" and "Bubble Gum". My work doesn't dictate one style because I  have endless ideas of life and I illustrate this with many colors, patterns and textures. Art moves my soul so much that sometimes I find myself awakened in the middle of the night with visions. Once I see the canvas I might be there for days. Once I get in "the zone", I am stuck, and completely obsessed with what I can see materialize into beautiful color. I hope my style moves my audience, and gives you a glimpse of who I am.... colorful, well shaped, with lots of texture."

Katy Shepard

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Honors program at Virginia Tech also majoring in political science and philosophy Katy Shepard wishes to pursue a career in non-profit organizations’ promotion of international human rights through the use of mass media and community arts. It is her belief that the arts are a fundamental outlet for honesty with one’s self and others about not only the necessities of life, but also what can lead to happiness. Shepard has also previously studied at the Virginia Tech Center for European Studies and Architecture located in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland as part of the Honors Presidential Global Scholars program in the spring of 2013 as well as partaking in Korea University’s International Summer Campus program in 2012. Research & Community Works

Previously Shepard has worked on research on the Developmental Stages of the Child Artist with head of VT Perspective Gallery Robin Boucher. She has worked on numerous independent art studies with Professor Emeritus Robert Graham revolving around international gender issues.

Shepard is the president and founder of the Light Up a Life service organization at Virginia Tech which pursues the phrase “Kids, Creativity, & Community.” Through this organization Shepard was able to organize and develop the show “Once Upon a Time,” shown in the Perspective Gallery in the spring of 2012, which featured the future self-portraits of students kindergarten through 12th grade.
