Pool Toys makes their move in the “anti-pop” movement, calling themselves “a pop band for sad people.”

The quartet consists of singer-guitarist Morgan Ching, keyboardist Sean Leston, bassist Eric Jecklin and drummer Ryan Rael, who all met in college. They have been playing together for eight years and after moving to LA, they decided to put together a project under the name Pool Toys.

“Bad Things” is their debut single, released via drowning_irl, and as in the way of debuts, this certainly was a spectacular introduction to the band’s sounds. Feeding into a very fresh and invigorating vibe, the track contains crisp beats with lush arrangements coming from the synths. Ching’s vocals are smooth and they really feel like part of the ambiance as the etherealness washes over you. The chilling soundscapes with suave vocals and electric pop impulses feel both uplifting and euphoric at the same time.

The band’s brand of “sad pop” is simply captivating. As Pool Toys grows in their sound, regular releases of new music from the up-and-coming act is something to look forward to. Stay tuned for more!
