New York native Robert Cotnoir of Grapefruit Sound Lab works with Gina Volpe to release a remix of the East Village NYC punk rocker’s hit single “Shine” originally form her album Different Animal via Heavy Nose Records.
Known as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and visual artist, Volpe maybe best known from the band she started back in high school, the legendary NYC punk outfit, Lunachicks. Since then, Volpe has gone on to establish herself as a solo artist with her 2017 debut solo release of Different Animal, an explosive and exhilarating collection of analog and electronic elements into a uniquely modern sound. Volpe follows up with 2019’s release of six singles unveiled monthly in a project entitled Winter To Spring. Each single showcase a story, style and mood that goes on to unmistakably demonstrate Volpe’s signature sound.
“Shine (Red House Mix)” mixes electronic beats with airy vocals that conjure up a retro-inspired ‘80s era vibe. The track recalls a new wave vibe. The vocals really carry with a soulful and harmonious feel. The ethereal sounding synths and sauntering beats, which oscillate in and out of this song, gives this track an electric appeal.
With pulsating electro beats combined with Volpe’s super smooth vocals adds an alluring dark vibe that fans of alternative pop will be drawn to. The remix is a departure from the original track which mixes organic instrumentation into its electronic based sound.
