21st Artist Interview with Seattle based indie-rock band, Racoma

The 21st artist interview would take place in Seattle, with Racoma, an indie-rock band who were 1 of 3 artist recommendations provided by Sofar Sounds, a global community that fosters and facilities intimate live concerts across the world. The other two artist interviews that came from Sofar Sounds recommendations was the 24th artist interview in Nevada, and the 38th artist interview in South Carolina.

The landscape between Idaho and Washington transformed into vast yellow fields of hay, a picturesque backdrop leading to the bustling city of Seattle, Washington, a crescendo of inspiration and talent.  It's taken a little over a month to have finally made it across America to the west coast from the east. As soon as I crossed the border from Idaho to Washington, I was greeted with a large billboard for "Floyd's,", a cannabis dispensary, followed by a 4-hour drive of vast fields of hay. Having grown up in a state who didn't share similar laws subject to the billboard as did on the west coast, at the time I had never seen outside promotion for the plant, so there was a bit of surprise as I entered the 21st state on this music interviewing odyssey.

Having connected with one of Racoma's Band members online, I was invited to one of the members homes to do the interview right before their practice jam session in the basement of the home.  Despite a slight detour to the wrong address, the 3 of the 4 band members who were there welcomed me, were engaging with the questions and gave me a mini concert.  Although it was just me and we were in the basement, they sounded AMAZING.  I can only imagine seeing them live on stage would be nothing less.

When we got to the dream collab question, each member shared their dream collaboration choices—Eric's desire to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar, James's dream of playing with Toro y Moi, and Simon's wish to join forces with Blake Mills. The song played in the background of the video linked above, is an original of theirs titled 'Get On'.

This 21st artist interview in Seattle, Washington was not just a stop on the road trip, but a chapter in a larger tale—a tale of independent musicians weaving the fabric of America's diverse musical landscape.
